Athleticism: C

Fairly average athlete. Looks mechanical moving around, and is slow to change direction. Moves much better in a straight line than he does laterally. Range is below average, but gives good effort in pursuit to compensate. Has an inconsistent get off and can be one of the first men moving off the line or can also be the last. Accelerates well into the backfield, especially he gets off the ball quickly.

Power: C+

Is a strong player and can get after it in the trenches. Too often gets hung up on blocks and can get stalemated. Gets stymied by RB and TE chips and needs to keep his feet under him to better avoid cut blocks. Is able to get his blocker moving backwards initially, but linemen are able to recover and anchor usually.

Technique: C+

Is a physical tackler and can strike the ballcarrier. Capable of shooting into backfield on running plays and taking out the ballcarriers legs. Needs to stay under control when making tackles and can whiff occasionally and make contact with opposing players’ helmets. Leverage and use of hands are both above average, but could use improvement. Gets good initial pad leverage, but plays taller throughout the block and is more easily handled as the play goes on, as a result.

Third-Down: C+

More of an effort rusher than a sack artist. Is too stiff and unathletic to be double digit sack performer like he was in college. Tenacious getting after the QB and uses a fairly effective spin move but lacks the burst or power to be much more than a pressure guy in the NFL. Used in short zones and played very soft, but has the experience. Knows when to get his hands up in throwing lanes and can haul in an errant pass.

Intangibles: B

Has fairly good eyes, but has an even better playing temperament. Only a two year starter, but played in every game since becoming a starter. Numbers were off the charts in his sophomore and junior campaigns, and declaring while his stock was highest. Possesses the football mentality of the kind of guy you want on your team.

Red Flags: Tweener

Bottom Line: Despite playing primarily with his hand in the ground as a down lineman, Bradford has experience playing from a stand up position, which will help him to make a necessary transition in the NFL. With a solid all-around skillset, Bradford is a classic tweener prospect who lacks a stand-out physical trait and whose best days were likely with the Sun Devils. Bradford is a viable option as either a Sam linebacker in a 43 or as Jack linebacker in a 34.

Comparison: Chase Thomas

Grade: 7.5 (5th Round)
