Most of the Liverpool faithful spent January 31 following the January transfer window in any way they could. Liverpool had failed to sign anyone yet and tension was growing in the final few days as the club were linked to Yevhen Konoplyanka. After hours of research I came to the conclusion that this lad is perfect for Liverpool and is a star in the making.
The 24 year-old has played for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk his whole life and has won Ukrainian player of the year an astonishing three times. This season he has performed admirably with ten goals in all competitions including two goals for Ukraine in ten appearances. Many would then say but this is in the Ukrainian league. I would reply with that he scored in his last five Europa league appearances before playing Spurs at White Hart Lane and to anyone who watched both legs would of seen that he destroyed Spurs defence. His goal tally is not bad at all considering he is a winger and the rest of his team mates are not at the same level as he is.
He plays on the left side of the attack and plays a very attacking game and he often cuts in and shoots or passes to a teammate but can cross if he is needed too. He is also very fast and strong allowing him to track back, someone who will do a job of attacking and defending on the wing is someone that Liverpool are in desperate need of. He also possess a great long shot which I witnessed when I was at England vs Ukraine and this often catches out the goalkeeper.
Something that would appeal to Brendan Rodgers is that he only has a year left on his contract so his fee would be significantly less than the £16 million previously agreed for him. This will also appeal to Rodgers as he would be able to sign a potentially world- class player for a relatively small fee and have strength in depth as well as the player wanting a move there is hope that a deal can be completed in the summer. Mark my words, missing out on him a is a decision Liverpool would regret.
Why did he not come in January?
With an hour left in the window social media reported that a deal had been done, a sigh of relief… Now just to wait for the confirmation. Minutes ticked by and fans were becoming increasingly venous before with ten minutes to go everyone was talking about a collapse in the deal, my heart sunk. No players in January. Then it was revealed by Konoplyanka’s agent to as why it did not go through. “Still can’t believed what happened yesterday. Player agrees terms, medical done, LFC trigger release clause, Dnipro refuse to sign papers.” James Lippett later deleted the tweet but by then it was too late. Many fans were infuriated.
A couple of months on the saga lives on and I hope that for Liverpool fans it will be a happy ending…
