Athleticism: A

Does not have elite range, but has the foot speed to cut off the outside runs from the opposite ILB spot. Light, feet, quick hips, and good balance. Great ability to close due to a combination of foot speed,  instincts, and anticipation. Pursuit angles are never outpaced.

Power: B-

Has excellent vision and agility to dodge blockers at the LOS and get into the backfield, like a guard driving to the lane. Plays on his feet and can avoid cut blocks and pulls. Lacks much power to take on blocks, but can slip around blockers and disengage without too much difficulty. Can be blown up by receiver stalk blocks.

Technique: A-

Has pop on contact as a tackler and can drag the ballcarrier backwards. As close to a sure thing as a tackler as you are likely to find at the NCAA level. Tackles bigger ballcarriers low and smaller ballcarriers high. Has good strength in his hands and can use them to disengage quickly. Rarely gets locked on by blockers.

Third-Down: A-

Can shoot gaps cleanly as pass rusher. Does not convert speed to power and has trouble putting linemen on their skates and does not disengage while moving forward. Can pressure the QB, but is not a sack artist. Excellent range and instincts in coverage and can close on the football and the ballcarrier. Has the ability to hold up in zone heavy schemes. Can cover backs in the flat and limit yards after the catch. Plays physical with receivers near the line. Missed a number of opportunities to convert an interception and hands are suspect. Convincing zone blitzer.

Intangibles: A+

Outstanding instincts and playing speed. Rarely out of position and is always around the action. Does not get burned on the same play twice. Lacks a fiery on-field demeanor, but plays with maximum effort. Versatile skillset to play in any scheme at a number of linebacker spots. Highly experienced and a two-time National Champion. Has only missed two games in his career due to injuries, but has a history of minor injuries and surgeries like most Crimson Tide defenders. Underwhelming in terms of the amount of splash plays he made in 2013.

Red Flags: Durability concerns

Bottom Line: While Mosley does not jump out on film, he is a steady leady and producer, who will mean more to his team than the stat sheet will ever reflect. Provided he can keep a clean bill of health, Mosley has the ability to be a three-down linebacker and be a perennial Pro Bowl selection. While he does not have the upside of Khalil Mack or Anthony Barr, Mosley is the safest bet in this year’s linebacker crop. Can fit in just about any defense.

Comparison: Luke Kuechly

Grade: 9.6 (Top 10 Talent)
