Athleticism: D

Looks very slow and stiff on film. Did not show much range but flashed good closing ability on plays in front of him. Clearly knows where he needs to be in pursuit, coverage, and for tackling position, but has trouble getting there. Pursuit angles were consistently beaten by Braxton Miller in the 2013 B1G Championship Game.

Power: B-

Excellent thumper against the interior run. Shows very good strength to take O-line blocks and the physicality to mix it up inside. Has the power and technique to disengage from blocks fairly quickly. Explodes downhill and shows pop on contact.

Technique: B-

Excellent upper body strength combine with technique makes him an excellent hand fighter and can disengage from blockers. Plays a bit high taking on blocks. Very good tackler and rarely allows the ballcarrier to break free. Has trouble getting in position to take on blocks but is a sure tackler when he does. Can strike with authority.

Third-Down: C-

Better as a blitzer than in pass coverage. Very explosive moving downhill and can get to the QB with aplomb. Tough to block with a head of steam. Smells blood and is relentless. Is stiff in space and does not have the speed to hang in man coverage with TEs.

Intangibles: A-

Plays with max effort. Very instinctive and extremely football smart. Makes the defensive calls for the Spartans. Obvious on-field leadership. Has had some off-field incidents. Was suspended for the 2014 Rose Bowl for a violation of team rules. Was given nine months’ probation following an underage drinking arrest prior to his sophomore season.

Red Flags: Minor Character Concerns, Inconsistency

Bottom Line: When writing Bullough’s report I had to base it upon his most recent tape from the 2013 season, which paled in comparison with his tape from 2012. As a junior Bullough looked quick and athletic, and could have pushed for a first-round grade in my book. But returning as a senior, Bullough looked slow and out of shape having gained extra weight prior to the season. If Bullough can return to his 2012 form, he will be a big time payoff to whatever team drafts him. As of now however, he looks to be solely an inside the box thumper for a 34 defense.

Comparison: David Harris

Grade: 7.9 (4th Round)
