Fresh Start In Tampa: Bucs Fire Head Coach And GM

Black Monday strikes again.

Tampa Bay’s Greg Schiano, Washington’s Mike Shanahan, Minnesota’s Leslie Frazier, Detroit’s Jim Schwarz, and Cleveland’s Rob Chudzinski

The Bucs lost 42-17 against the New Orleans Saints Sunday. In what was another disappointing performance of an underperforming team. But if I’m being honest I couldn’t care less. The Bucs end the season 4-12.

The sky’s have parted and light may once again shine in Tampa Bay. Buccaneers have fired head coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik.

“The results over the past two years have not lived up to our standards and we believe the time has come to find a new direction,” co-chairman Bryan Glazer said in a statement.

The Bucs lost five of there final six games last season plus the first eight in 2013 — a 1-13 stretch.
Schiano was 11-21 in two seasons as head coach. The Bucs were 28-52 in Dominik’s five seasons as GM.

Year in review: The Bucs lost the first eight games of the season. The MRSA outbreak in the locker room and infection of several players. The long drawn out drama leading to the benching and releasing of QB Josh Freeman. It’s safe to say this might have been the most disappointing season in team history and it’s for these reasons why Schiano and Dominik had to go. But still I’m optimistic.

Why optimistic: new coach, new GM, new season. Much like the Kansas City Chiefs, I believe the Bucs are capable of a quick turnaround. The Bucs have talent and with the right coach could become a very good team, very fast.

With that said, Lovie Smith.

I really want Lovie Smith as the Bucs new coach. I know that not every Bucs fan will agree. Smith who has a career coaching record of 84–66 was fired as the Chicago Bears head coach after a 10-6 season. Smith was also the linebackers coach in Tampa 1996-2000 under then head coach Tony Dungy. I am really intrigued to see what Lovie Smith could do with the Bucs defense. The Bucs have historically been a defense team but in todays NFL I understand why some fans would prefer a offenses minded head coach. The Bucs had the worst offense in the league by the end of the season, so at the very least they need a talented and capable offensive coordinator.

I can only imagine the the direction the Bucs take in the upcoming draft will be heavily influenced by the type of coach they hire.

This season was disappointing there’s no other way to say it. I’m happy to see the Glazers recognized just how bleak this season has been. They have invested quite a lot of money the last few years and are looking for a return on that investment.

The Greg Schiano era is over at last. I honestly don’t think he was qualified to be a head coach in the NFL. His hard-ass attitude and style of coaching might work on college players but not on grown men. You never want to see someone lose their job and I hope he gets a new one just not in the NFL. I don’t want to keep bashing him, he failed at his job and was fired for it.

Tampa Bay fan’s deserve better. Simply put the NFL is a business and in this business winning is all that matters. The Bucs haven’t done much winning lately. It’s gonna be a long hard road filled with tough decisions Bucs fans will be eagerly awaiting the hiring on their new head coach. #ItsABucsLife
