Last Word on Memes: The Berlusconi Family

Earlier this week, longtime Milan director Adriano Galiani announced that he would be resigning and leaving the club after their Champions League match with Ajax.  Galiani has been with the club for 28 years and seen them through numerous Champions League and Serie A titles.  It was a shocking announcement from one of the most respected men in Italian football.

There were rumors of a rift between Galiani, and Barbara Berlusconi, the owner/president’s daughter who had been taking a more active role in the club.

Well things didn’t sit well with team owner and president Silvio Berlusconi who held a four hour meeting with his daughter and Galiani to fix the situation.  Following the meeting he tried to go to Milan Saturday to make an announcement at the San Siro, but was unable to, as his helicopter was grounded by bad weather.  Instead a statement was released to the press.

“The only reason I did not come to Milanello was due to the adverse weather conditions and I am disappointed.

“In any case, Milan go forward in a calm manner. Adriano Galliani is more relieved now, everyone is staying in their positions and Milan proceed in unity.

“I wanted to say these things directly to the media, but that is the basic jist of it. The club situation will not change. Galliani is relaxed after last night’s dinner at Arcore.”

Galiani also had some words.

“President Silvio Berlusconi’s words are sacred and have been as far as I am concerned for the last 34 years, even before I started working at Milan,” Galliani told MilanNews.it.

“I do not need to confirm the President’s words, nor comment on them. Were the last few hours tough? Well…”

The only one silent in all of this, Barbara Berlusconi.  And that silence may say more than the words of her father Silvio Berlusconi or Adriano Galiani.

It seems that in this powerful Italian family, that Father Knows Best, and daughters should listen to their fathers, even when the daughter is 29 years old.
