Championship: 3 Teams Pushing Into the Top Six

The Championship is a very unpredictable league. Who would’ve predicted at the beginning of the season that Burnley and Leicester would top the Sky Bet Championship, looking eager for automatic promotion?

What about the four teams in the play off places? At the moment Queens Park Rangers, who are joint 1st on 35 points, are in 3rd place with Blackpool comfortably lying in 4th. Reading have recently dropped out of the top six following a disappointing run of only winning once in 7 games.

Nottingham Forrest have only lost once in their past eight games which include a 2-0 over local rivals Leicester. Although Forrest don’t have a definitive goal scorer they have not found goals hard to come by. Henri Lansbury, the former Arsenal starlet, is the joint leading goal scorer on five with fellow midfielder, Andy Reid. Consistency has often plagued them in recent seasons but if they can maintain this steady run maybe a long waited return to the top flight could become reality.

Brien McDermott’s men are next in 6th and after a stunted beginning of the season they have now found their feet with credit to Leeds’ top scorer Ross McCormack. Leeds have won three on the trot with Rossy netting 7 times in that time. Leeds fans may be excited by the fact that McDermott has already achieved promotion from the Championship which included an outstanding run of 13 games unbeaten.

Derby County have also made a charge of late having only lost once in seven games; the loss coming against QPR in a highly contested match which ended 2-1. The Rams high scorer is Chris Martin with 8 but it are the Derby danger duo, Will Hughes and Jamie Ward, that cause the opposition the most trouble.  Steve McClaren has instilled flare into his new side and they are exciting to watch. Can the former England gaffer get his team into the top flight.
