Everywhere You Go, Always Take Lamela With You!

The Argentinian winger scored his first goal for Spurs against FC Sheriff, but did not feature in the game against Newcastle.

On Thursday night, he was full of energy from the start and looked certain to score. He buzzed up the right wing, causing all kinds of problems for the FC Sheriff defenders. When he eventually did score his goal in the second half it was a good finish low into the bottom right corner. His first goal sent White Hart Lane into celebration, and he too was delighted with his effort. Lamela had previously looked a little isolated and uncertain in the games that he had previously featured in, but after he scored that goal, he was shining with his ability. Receiving congratulations from his team-mates, he was determined to surge on his form.

Spurs lost to Newcastle on Sunday. It was a game that Spurs were perhaps unlucky not to equalise in, but perhaps more of their own fault. Lamela, was not used in the game where he could of drove on from his recent form and confidence to pick up those falling points that Spurs dropped without him. Tim Krul had a wonderful game, and was unstoppable in goal. Perhaps Lamela’s little bit of skill, and a little bit more finesse could of gave Krul a bad day?

There is one thing we know for sure, and that is Lamela will definitely be featuring in Tottenham’s XI sometime soon, how soon is to be proven. An international break means that Lamela will just have to wait a little longer to play in the Lilywhite shirt again.

If Tottenham were to put Townsend on one wing, and Lamela on the other they could prove to be a deadly force on the wings for Tottenham. The two combined would be a deadly mix, as either would be capable of beating their man and getting a cross in, or cutting inside and giving it a go themselves. Both can play equally as good on the right, and on the left. Andros and Erik are both left footed, so rotating them between the left and right wings means that Tottenham can have a little variety in the attacks they conduct. However, Townsend seems to be a little more direct than Lamela, but perhaps that is because Townsend is just in good form around a team of players he has known for quite a while.

Lamela shall grow as he plays games, his confidence shall rise, and we will see why Spurs bought him for £30 million. Erik will come good eventually, it is just up to Tottenham and their fans to back him all the way.
