Giants Mid-Week Report: The Trade Rumors are Real This Time

A late Hump Day report. Real Life got in the way along with a dentist appointment, so I’m sorry for the delay. Let’s get on with it.

Nicks is on the Block: A month ago there was a minor rumor that was quickly debunked that had Nicks being traded to the Lions for Mikel Leshoure and a handful of draft picks. Fast forward to now and there seems to be some major traction to the idea that Hakeem Nicks may not be a Giant much longer. It’s been a rather awful year for Nicks and he’s looking for a long-term deal in the range of what teammate Victor Cruz got. Pound-for-pound, Nicks is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and he will get (over)paid by someone in the off-season. But with the number-one receiver talent comes all of the nagging injuries that come with him. With the Giants likely turning their focus now to 2014, you can pretty much guarantee that Jerry Reese has had some conversations with teams like the Colts. It’s unlikely a trade will be consummated, but with in-season trades becoming more and more common (hello, Jon Beason), it’s not impossible.

And Speaking of Hypothetical Trades: ESPN’s Greg Garber makes a case for the Giants trading for Adrian Peterson. The world of Madden crazy-trades has now permeated real life. But it is nice to dream.

Baas Adds to His Injury History: It seems from the moment that David Baas put pen to paper to join the Giants, his body was destined to betray him. It’s highly possible that Baas will be a cap casualty, but it’s not like the Giants will really miss him as he’s been one of the biggest misfires made by Jerry Reese in terms of his play.

Final Word: With a bit of a hop in their step after finally getting a win, the Giants will reacquaint themselves with Mike Vick and the Eagles. The Giants were in control in the first meeting before they let it slip away late. With a renewed sense of confidence, the Giants get on an actual winning streak as they head into their official bye. They will take care of business, 24-21.
