The New York Jets Are Re-Writing Expectations

What would you have asked the Jets two months ago?  Questions like,” Will the Jets go for the number one pick” or, “Will Mark Sanchez start for the Jets?” The list can go on.

Obviously many things have occurred since then such as Sanchez getting thrown into the 4th quarter of a meaningless game and suffering a shoulder injury.  This gave Geno Smith a chance to transform this struggling team into a legitimate contender.  People questioned his leadership and pointed out his flaws.  They talked about his inability to get rid of the football and give up fumbles and throw interceptions. Geno surprised people with his athleticism and confidence in the pocket last Monday Night.  Obviously he still has to work on his mechanics, but rookie quarterbacks always make mistakes.

Rex Ryan was very encouraged after Monday Night’s win over the Falcons. “We were not reckless,” Ryan said in his post game press conference. “We were just the opposite, fearless.

He will be tested in today’s game against the Steelers at 1 pm.  They will get a chance to have a 4-2 record and become a legitimate contender in the AFC East.  The Jets will then play three not so easy opponents in the Patriots, Bengals and Saints.

Many assumed a poor performance for the 2013 New York Jets just like the 2012 team.   The losses of Darrelle Revis and Bart Scott haven’t even been mentioned which is a great thing.  Ryan’s defense has now shaped up to be one of the elite defenses in the league.  The Jets will face off against Ben Roethlisberger and the 0-4 Steelers today at 1 pm with the chance to move to 4-2 on the season.  Jets fans should be pleased, but not overly confident.  But after the results of the first five weeks, Jets fans can dream of an exciting season.  This is so much better seeing a team fight than a bad team struggling for survival.

What do you think the Jets can do from this point on?
