There has been a ton of talk around the NHL about Tomas Hertl’s between the legs goal against the New York Rangers on Tuesday Night.  Many have criticized the youngster, and Capitals coach Adam Oates called it disrespectful to the league.

Sharks’ teammate and captain Joe Thornton begs to differ.

Thornton, in overhearing a question to Patrick Marleau about whether rookie Tomas Hertl was disrespectful and showboating in scoring his fourth goal of the game vs the New York Rangers on Thursday.

“Shut up, have you ever played the game?” Thornton interrupted.

“I’d have my c–k out if I scored four goals. I’d have my c–k out, stroking it,” Thornton said.

Whether he was joking or not, I think I speak for almost all of the LWOS staff when I say that I hope “Jumbo Joe” doesn’t put up four goals tonight, or any other night.  Still its an amazing response in support of his young teammate.

Update: Kings goalie Ben Scrivens tweeted the following in response to Thornton.

@scrivens_30Someone tell jumbo the new NHL tuck rule bans uptucks too. ”
