Eriksen: The Man Spurs Have Been Missing

Last season, Tottenham Hotspur lacked a true playmaker. Spurs lacked a man capable of finding holes in the defence, and putting the ball through those holes for our strikers to go on and score. So, after the recent joining of Chistian Eriksen can Spurs finally tick the box off?

Eriksen joined for around £11.5m (BBC sport) which was in that window, a bargain. Players like Maraoune Fellaini and James McCarthy had terribly inflated prices of much greater value that Eriksen, for players that aren’t really worth that much. Daniel Levy pulled it off again, yet another fantastic deal.

Eriksen hasn’t yet suited up, but I expect after this international break, he will definitely get some game time. He is capable of both scoring and helping out his team-mates. Last year he finished the season on 11 goals and 6 assists overall. The year before that he got 11 goals and 5 assists. This proves he is consistent, and consistency is key for top four. Covered by the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Lewis Holtby, it’s a strong postion. It seemed that the signing of Eriksen perhaps sent Tom Carroll out on loan to QPR, but I think Carroll would get far much more experience by playing on the field regularly so the loan is a good one. Eriksen is only 21 and still has many years to develop and to already have the skills he possesses, it looks very bright for this recently converted Lily white. His passing will no doubt supply Roberto Soldado, who just recently hasn’t received the best of service from his team-mates, probably as Spurs are still trying to adapt our play with the loss of Gareth Bale.

I believe Eriksen will be the final cog to power the Tottenham midfield. He will be the guy who provides the finesse in Tottenham’s rather powerhouse type midfield. For every Sandro, Etienne Capoue, Moussa Dembele there is now a Sigurdsson, a Holtby and of course, one Christian Eriksen.
