From Villa Park: Dare We Dream Of Wembley?

A few years back it was looking like our next visit to Wembley would be a play-off final, but with Paul Lambert turning fortunes around, maybe it is our time to shine with Swansea and Wigan both proving it is not just the “Big Four” that win the cups in England. With the embarrassment of getting knocked out by Bradford and Millwall last season, all did not look good, but since then the squad has become a much tighter knit group and the harmony and the spirit of the team are key to success.

It is early to say we can have a good cup run but what is wrong with confidence? If the players do not believe now they cannot win a cup they should not be in the side as at the start of the season the team should set its objectives and in my eyes this season we have a team capable of reaching a final.

The squad is a lot more capable this season of juggling a cup run and the league due to the heavy overhaul of players this summer and the newfound spirit of the young team. As the new season approaches and an upcoming Capital One Cup game against Rotherham is in the diaries, maybe finally we can dream of a run in the cup that this time could lead to glory.

The cup this season already seems as wide open as last season with many lower league teams beating far better equipped Skybet Championship sides.

The Villa squad’s unity has impressed many throughout pre-season, with every goal celebrated like a big game and every game treated as a vital one. If Lambert treats the cup with the right attitude throughout, by picking a good mix of first team regulars and back-up players, I can’t see any reason to suggest that Villa can’t go on a good run.

Comment below on how you see our season panning out. UTV!
