Report: Brandon Stokley to Sign With The Ravens

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Baltimore Ravens are going to sign veteran receiver Brandon Stokley to a one-year contract.  It is Stokley’s second stint with the Ravens as he was originally drafted by Baltimore in the 4th round of the 1999 NFL draft and played for the Ravens until 2002.

The Wide Receiver was part of the Ravens Superbowl XXXV winning team, even catching a touchdown pass in the title game victory over the New York Giants.

The 37-year-old Stokley spent last season with the Denver Broncos where he had 45 receptions for 544 yards and five touchdowns.  He was primarily a slot receiver and was deemed expendable when the Broncos signed Wes Welker in free agency.

The NFL veteran has 384 receptions for 5224 yards and 39 touchdowns in 146 career games. Stokley has also played for the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants over his 14-year NFL career.

Stokley jones a Baltimore team that is expected to start Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones as their two primary wide receivers, however lacks proven NFL depth beyond those two players.  Stokley will provide a slot receiver for Joe Flacco in three or more wide sets.  The Ravens have lost Anquan Boldin in an off-season trade to the San Francisco 49ers and tight end Dennis Pitta was lost for the season with a hip injury suffered in training camp.
