The Florida Gators have lost red-shirt senior wide receiver Andre Debose for the entire 2013 NCAA football season due to a torn ACL suffered during practice on Tuesday. The injury was described as a non-contact injury.
“I know that Andre is disappointed,” UF head coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. “He had been doing very well in camp and we were more than pleased with his effort and attitude. Andre was hurt in a non-contact situation. He just planted his foot and there was a tear. He will have surgery after the swelling goes down. It is unfortunate and you feel bad anytime that someone is injured, and the coaching staff and our team will be very supportive in assisting Andre during his recovery.”
Debose redshirted during his true freshman season in 2009 due to an injury he suffered in highschool. Since this is his second year missed and both are due to injury, he will be eligible to apply to the NCAA for an exemption and a 6th year of eligibility in 2014.
He has started 8 games at WR for the Gators in his career. He has 29 career receptions for 543 yards and four touchdowns during his first three seasons in Gainesville but was expected to battle for a full-time starter’s spot this year.
In addition to his role at wideout, Debose was a key kick returner for the Gators. His four career kickoff return TDs are a Florida Gators record and are tied for the most in SEC history.
