Packers sign Vince Young

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a one-year deal with quarterback Vince Young.

Young, the former 3rd overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft spent the 2012 season out of football after being cut by the Buffalo Bills at the end of preseason.

The 30-year-old Young is a 6-year NFL veteran who spent the first 5 years of his career with the Tennessee Titans, and the 2011 season as Michael Vick’s backup in Philadelphia.

He has been looking for a contract for some time, performing for teams at a University of Texas pro-day earlier in the spring.

Young will compete with Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman for the backup quarterback, and third string jobs behind Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Young has played in 60 games with 50 starts and completed 755-of-1,304 passes (57.9%) for 8,964 yards in his career with 46 touchdowns and 51 interceptions. Young was named NFL offensive rookie of the year in 2006. Young has also done damage on the ground over his career with 282 carries for 1,459 yards (5.2 yards per carry) and 12 rushing touchdowns.

He led the University of Texas to the National Championship, defeating USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl in one of the best football games in BCS history.
