The Eagle Report: Not-so "Dream Team"

Editor’s Note:  We at LWOS are always looking to add passionate sports fans to our team.  We are pleased to add Shane Chase, who will be covering the NFL and CFL for us.  Welcome to the #LastWordArmy!

If you roll your memory back a few years you’ll be able to recall The 2010 Philadelphia Eagles. Many nicknamed this squad of superstars ” The Dream Team” because of the truly skillful names of players like Vick and McCoy. This team flew to a 10-6 record but fell to the strong Packers in the NFC wildcard game.

In 2011, the hype still lingered and the Eagles had something to prove.  They stumbled to an 8-8 record that season, and failed to make the post-season. At this point the doubters outweighed the believers in the NFL community.  One would have thought it would fire them up for the 2012 season, but sometimes things don’t work out as expected. In fact, it did the exact opposite. The 2012 Eagles crawled to an awful 4-12 record, and yet again missed the post season.

That brings us to this upcoming 2013 season, and many of those “Dream Team” superstars continue to remain in the lineup.  At this point, we Eagles fans ask ourselves, what’s going on? What is happening in the Eagles organization that they aren’t able to utilize the insane amount of talent the team possesses?

In my opinion, it’s a classic case of too many egos. There is almost too much skill on the team, too many franchise players and not enough character guys that do so much for a squad – you know, the guys who hustle on every  down, who always seem to be the first downfield on Special Teams, and that fill in with 100% effort whenever called upon.

So now all we can do is wait.  We wait to see if the firing of Andy Reid and the coaching change to Chip Kelly can help the Eagles to live up to the hype brought upon them from several years ago, or if it will remain the same Eagles who struggle to find a cohesiveness as a team in the tough NFC East division. As mentioned many times before, they do have the skill-set to be very successful , now we need to see it displayed out on the field.
