Patriots Alfonzo Dennard Arrested for DUI

Another New England Patriot is in trouble with the law, as cornerback Alfonzo Dennard has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The Patriots cornerback is still on probation for his arrest, prior to his draft in 2012, for assaulting a police officer.  Interestingly enough, the DUI and assault charges both stem from incidents in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was set to serve his 30 day jail term for the assault charges following the NFL season, though with the latest charge that may change.

Dennard was stopped by police just after 2:00 am, when his car was reportedly observed straddling the centre line.  Dennard was administered field sobriety tests.  At the station he refused to provide a breathalyzer sample.  He was not jailed.

Dennard was a 7th round pick in the 2012 draft, as his arrest just days before the draft, caused him to slide on many draft boards.

The Patriots released the following statement:

“The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident.

It remains to be seen if the NFL will consider this a first or second offence under the player conduct policy as the assault incident occurred prior to Dennard being drafted.
