NFL Off-Season Power Rankings

Is it early for power rankings for this season?  Yep.  But who cares, all power ranking are essentially garbage and meaningless, so why not make the same meaningless rankings in the off-season as during the season?

Truth be told, I want to take an early shot at LWOS NFL writer, Jack Stone, and see if I can come within a yard of his strong statements and rankings last year as he consistently showed support for both teams who ended up in the Superbowl.  Even after losses he stood by his opinions and prevailed – a legit power ranker (If such a thing exists).

So, it is the off-season, and this list will probably look ridiculous after the preseason begins and ends, as this does not account for injuries, break-out stars, hold-outs, or the NFL’s most common reason for altering a roster, arrests.

So with much ado, let’s reveal the list from 32-1.

32 – Jacksonville Jaguars

As long as Gabbert, who ducks more than Donald, is the starter this team is doomed. A pocket chicken that will cost his team drastically. If Henne wins the job this team jumps up a spot or two.

31 – Cleveland Browns

Can Weeden lead this franchise to victory? Maybe, providing he learned how to alter records like Flying J allegedly did.

30 – Oakland Raiders

If Oakland doesn’t figure something out, they could end up with the worst record in the league. Note: these are power rankings, and Jacksonville looks to have an easier route to victories than Oakland, although they do appear to be a lesser team due to Gabbert.

29 – Tennessee Titans

Not sure Jake Locker has what it takes, and can Chris Johnson return to form? I don’t see Tennessee coming anywhere near the playoffs. 4-6 wins max.

28 – Carolina Panthers

Sitting in a tough NFC conference and division with Steve Smith getting older, and Cam Newton still complaining, the Panthers will battle Tampa bay as bottom feeders.

27 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Upgrades at defense will help them pick off a couple of victories, But Freeman will likely be a free man after his release in the offseason due to inconsistent play.

26 – San Diego Chargers

This team is lucky they get to play the Raiders twice. Wow, there are two games I don’t plan on watching.

25 – Philadelphia Eagles

Not sure how the Chip Kelly offense is going to play out. And who the heck is the starting QB?  The Eagles spot in these rankings is likely to change, but a strong division does not allow for much wiggle room.

24 – New York Jets

BUTT FUMBLE!

23 – Buffalo Bills

A strong defense let’s the Bills sit above the Jets in these rankings. Both teams do not seem to have much strength at QB right now. These teams are about equal, the determinant is simply the Bills are better by a field goal, after recovering a late BUTT FUMBLE!

22 – Arizona Cardinals

Carson Palmer tossed up just over 4,000 yards on a terrible Oakland team last year. Bruce Arians turns the corner for this franchise with Fitzgerald. Too bad they are in the NFC West. I Like the Mendenhall addition as well.

21 – St. Louis Rams

Put up some tough competition last year against San Francisco. How much will Jake Long help Bradford on the blindside so he can complete some more passes?

20 – Minnesota Vikings

Teams have somewhat solved the Vikings prior to this season. 11 in the box!

19 – Baltimore Ravens

This team lost way too much after winning the Bowl. Instead of ditching their starting QB after winning the Lombardi, this time they opted to overpay the QB and lose 2 star defensive players and a clutch receiver, along with other starters.

18 – Detroit Lions

I like the signing of Stafford right now, he is a part of Megatron’s mega performances. A couple less stupid penalties by Suh, and finally a running presence with Bush are great things. This team makes it back to 500. And as we know 8-8 is like a perfect season in Detroit.

17 – Kansas City Chiefs

A little high? I agree. Simply forgot about them and do not want to edit these power rankings as they are always useless and just fun. So Jamal Charles pumps it up this year in Reid’s offense, with Smith throwing to a revitalized Bowe. KC upsets Denver once and claim 2nd place in their division.

16 – Chicago Bears

This spot is dependent on how many passes B. Marsh drops in the endzone.

15 – Cincinnati Bengals

This team keeps on moving forward and will fight for the division. However, the one thing that is always plugging up their offense’s holes is still in Pittsburgh. Dick! Lebeau is a legendary defensive mastermind, and will befuddle this team and take the division.

14 – Dallas Cowboys

Romo is better than you think.

13 – Washington Redskins

RG3 or no RG3? Who cares, just don’t change your team name.

12 – New York Giants

This division is so close together anything can happen, that is why they are bunched together.

11 – Indianapolis Colts

Andrew Luck, can you do it again? A strong performance last year has earned them the respect to be here. Should they be?

10 – Pittsburgh Steelers

Wow, these guys lost a lot of nice pieces, good thing they still got Dick. The defense wins this team games by catching balls, and thanking Dick.

9 – Miami Dolphins

Over-ranked here, should be about 15 since I do not think Tannehill has what it takes to be here yet, but his wife is smoking hot which gives this team an automatic boost into the top 10.

8 – San Francisco 49ers

Lost a couple of defensive pieces and losing Crabtree sets them back. However they land here mainly because Kap likes to have Dolphins above his head.

7 – Atlanta Falcons

Strong team, too bad New Orleans gets their coach back.

6 – New Orleans Saints

Welcome back Sean Payton, Saints reclaim the division

5 – New England Patriots

Tom Brady! Yep, he has won it with less.

4 – Houston Texans

A great defense with a nice upgrade at safety. If this defense stays healthy and Andre J shows no signs of age at receiver, this team has a shot. For these guys, the time is now.

3 – Seattle Seahawks

Wilson was the best of the 3 rookie QB’s last year, has one of the better deep balls in the league, with a strong defense and no drug suspensions, the Seahawks got a chance with that hard hitting defense.

2 – Green Bay Packers

I like the late addition of Lacy in the draft, he shall pound the rock nice, and Rodgers will prove strong again.

1 – Denver Broncos

Hate to do this, but the number 1 team is the Denver Broncos, The addition of Welker in the slot, the strong defense, Manning and Thomas playing catch all year long is going to ruin a lot of teams dreams.

Well there you have it, a 5-year old could likely pick a more accurate power rankings at this point in time, but as stated if you don’t get that power rankings are a joke just like fantasy football, well rage on dude, rage on!
