Report: Claude Giroux gets Mega-Extension in Philadelphia.

Claude Giroux has signed an 8 year extension with the Philadelphia Flyers.  According to TSN/ESPN’s Pierre Lebrun, the deal is worth just under 8.3 million per season.

Giroux, 25, has become one of the most dynamic offensive players in the league.  He was nearly a point per game player last season with 47 points in 48 games.   In 2011-12 Giroux scored 28 goals and 93 points in just 78 games.

Giroux has spent his entire 6 year NHL career with the Flyers, and has has 91 goals and 200 assits for 291 careeer points in 333 career games played.

Giroux was the Flyers first round draft choice, 22nd overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.  The pick is famous on highlight reels as then Flyers’ General Manager Bobby Clarke forgot the name of the player he was drafting.

Giroux’s new deal will begin in the 2014-15 season.  He has one year remaining on his current contract and was scheduled to be a restricted free agent on July 1st 2014 before signing this new extension.
