Daily Arsenal with El Presidente – Higuain and the Domino Effect

Rooney.  Higuain.  Fellaini.  You’ve heard these names mentioned repeatedly in the past few weeks as possible marquee signings for The Arsenal.  It appears that Wenger has finally cracked and broken with his tradition of scouring French Ligue 1 for relatives of Patrick Vieira.  It also seems as though with the wallets at the Emirates swelling, he has the money he needs to properly address the club’s real needs, rather than the admirable patchwork we’ve come to know.

The sceptics among Gooners, of which I am President I’ll have you know, have believed these rumours to be perpetuated to encourage season ticket renewals!  Cynical?  Yup.  But it seems yours truly, El Presidente, could be wrong as The signing of Gonzalo Higuain has become a very distinct possibility!

The confirmed signing of such a great player would send a message to fans and the media, as well as to other potential marquee players that Arsenal do indeed mean business.  Who knows, maybe a big signing like Higuain will not only attract some new blood, but it might even keep those already at the Emirates party happy.  Think of it as a domino effect of fortunate events.

I’m not yet ready to eat humble pie – yet.  If we have indeed signed Higuain, of course it’s great, but we can’t assume that’s enough.  In that event we desperately need to follow up with Fellaini and Williams, two Premiership stars who would complement Higuain, Cazorla, Jack, Theo and Giroud (even Ox and Poldi) very well and create an Arsenal back bone we have not seen since, dare I say, the Inv… nah, I won’t say it, but you know what I mean.

So fellow Gooners, maybe Higuain is the start of new dreams for us, or maybe the mere rumour continue’s to be our constant nightmare!

Richie Rich Gooner, El Presidente.
