Report: Nuggets hire Tim Connelly as GM

After a solid month of losing pieces the Denver Nuggets have finally added one.  As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Nuggets are set to hire New Orleans’ assistant GM Tim Connelly as their new General Manager.

Connelly has been quickly rising through the NBA’s management ranks.  . Connelly has been serving as the assistant GM with the New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans) since 2010.  He was involved in the Washington Wizards front office from 2000-2010, where he was in charge of scouting, and salary cap management. He travelled all over the world looking for players and has worked with various international programs to help grow the game, including the NBA’s “Basketball Without Borders” program.

Connelly replaces Masai Ujiri who left Denver to become General Manager of the Toronto Raptors.  He has his work cut out for him over the next month or so with the NBA Draft, finding a replacement for fired head coach George Karl, finding an Assistant GM to replace Pete D’Alessandro, and dealing with Andre Iguodala opting out of his contract to become a free agent.  It will be a busy first month on the job for the new GM.

It could be worse though, the Nuggets have a decent core, and finished 3rd in the Western Conference this season before falling to the Golden State Warriors in the first round.
