Aaron Rodgers signs Biggest Extension in NFL History

A deal that has been rumored for weeks finally went down on Friday as the Green Bay Packers have locked up their franchise quarterback to a 5 year mega contract extension.

Aaron Rodgers has signed a brand new 5 year, $110 million extension to stay in Green Bay.  Rodgers had 2 years and $17.5 million left on his current deal. Rodgers new deal is said to pay him $40 million in the first year, and a total of $62.5 million in the first three years of the deal.

What we do know is that Cheeseheads need not worry about the state of their team’s quarterbacking situation for the next several years.  #12 will be lining up under centre for the Packers at Lambeau Field and the Cal alumni is likely to continue to lead one of the best offences in the NFL.

Rodgers, the Superbowl XLV MVP, and 2011 NFL MVP holds numerous NFL records including best ever single season passer rating (122.5), highest career passer rating (104.9), and highest career completion percentage (65.7%).  Last year he was voted the number 1 player in the league by his peers in the NFL Network’s annual NFL 100.  He is a three time pro bowl selection, and 2 time NFL All Pro.

Packers General Manager Ted Thompson released the following statement on behalf of the team:

“Aaron is a true professional and a special player. He works hard, is humble, and is focused on his actions, on and off the field. He is an excellent teammate and pushes himself and others to be the very best. We are happy to reach an agreement to extend his career with the Packers.”

Rodgers deal dwarfs the recent contract signed by Joe Flacco in Baltimore, which had made him the highest paid quarterback in the NFL earlier this off-season.
