Wetting Themselves, Exonerated, and My Dad Can Beat Up Your Dad

The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines.  Some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid.  It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day.  Welcome to Quick Slant.  I created this column as my way of sharing with you the headlines from around the NFL that I feel are most interesting.  I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels!  So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:

The Green Bay Packers are set to extend the contract of Clay Matthews. Most experts believe it will be better than $13mill per year, or about 1000 times the national poverty line…. Football media are wetting themselves at USC’s facilities as Tom Brady was spotted throwing to Amendola the other day (why that is news, I have no clue), and yesterday to Terrell Owens. I’m not sure if I’m more perplexed at T.O. for even potentially entertaining a nineteenth comeback, or Tom Brady for humoring him?…… Brian Banks was exonerated on rape charges (read the story here) recently, and now he is living his dream by signing with the Falcons.  Full credit for this guy for overcoming extreme adversity.  Compare him to some of the NFL’s finest whiners…… Mark Trestman, head coach of the Bears and former CFL coach, is making the news in the back and forth nonsense between his new team and Brian Urlacher.  Is it me or are all the pictures of him just  not what you’d expect in an NFL coach?  I mean to each his own…… Jamison Hensley believes the Steelers have some gaps on offence. Just offence? Pshaw, try the entire team. Wow, thanks for that fine piece of reporting…… I’ll leave you today with some draft news – kinda. Talent Analyst Nolan Nowacki called out Geno Smith saying “He isn’t a student of the game”. Smith shot back, “It’s untrue in all things”, to which Nawrocki retorted, “Yeah, but my dad can beat up your dad”. Classic defence…. Also, many NFL prognosticators are now suggesting Jarvis Jones may slip to the second round! The once dynamic Georgia Bulldog passrusher tested poorly and chose not to go to the combine.  Based on which teams need an OLB, Jones may slip – a lot!  Perhaps a good replacement for Harrison in Pittsburgh?

That does it for today.  Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
