Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Patriots, Eddie Bauer, "Primetime" Ray Lewis, SF Spending, and Creepy Eagles?

The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines.  Some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid.  It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day.  Welcome to QuickSlant.

Like you, I peruse headlines and tickers in search of the stories written by credible writers who have some form of credentials and at least a few real “inside sources”.  After all, the NFL is a serious business requiring serious reporting.  I also like to have a little fun, which is why I created Quick Slant. At its core, this column is my way of sharing with you the headlines from around the NFL that I feel are most interesting.  I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels!  So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:

So Wes Welker will have played his professional career with Tom Brady and now Peyton Manning throwing the ball to him. Do we really know how good/great he is/was?  Can we ever?  I’m pretty sure Brady and Peyton can complete 60% to me.  Doesn’t this just feel dirty?……Just as the Pats realized Welker was gone, they found themselves shopping for receivers at Eddie Bauer and found Danny Amendola (5 years, $31 mill)……Ray Lewis has been hired by ESPN for Sunday Countdown, Monday Countdown and Sportscenter. At least he won’t sit on the fence like some others. I just hope he knows when to ‘shut it’…..Reggie Bush has signed for four years at $16 mill in Detroit.  Has no one told him what happens to players that go to Detroit? We never hear from them again – unless you’re Megatron with a Megaphone.  Side note: I believe Bush is set to make less money than he made when playing for USC……It appears that the 49ers and Nnamdi Asomugha are courting like two eighth graders, each playing coy on their stance. For God’s sake, at least hold hands……Speaking of San Fran, they now have 76 picks in this draft, so you know (actually, closer to 16)……I’ve heard reports of several teams that are meeting with Ed Reed‘s peeps.  The scariest of the bunch is Houston, who are a few players from greatness. Reed would fill Glover Quin‘s old spot.  Other interested teams include Indy, and get this, the Niners. Screw them, they want everyone……I’m not sure how I’d feel if I were Alex Smith. On one hand, find a way to stay with Niners any way possible but never play.  Or go to Kansas City and play all the time.  The only catch is, it’s with Kansas City. The Chiefs……I’ll leave you today with a question: The Philadelphia Eagles have gone on record saying they would like 14-year old Paris Jackson (Michael’s daughter) to cheer for them when she’s out of high school.  Creepy?

That does it for today.  Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
