Anquan Boldin traded to the San Francisco 49ers

Anquan Boldin has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a 6th round pick.

It was just a little more than a month ago that Boldin was coming up with big catches for the Ravens in helping them defeat the 49ers in Superbowl XLVII.  He scored a 1st quarter TD that day, and overall had 6 catches for 104 yards, which included an important 4th quarter Game Changer.

Boldin’s trade saves the Ravens over $6 million in cap space, space that was needed after their mega contract to Joe Flacco.

Boldin had 65 catches for 921 yards and 4 touchdowns in 15 games for the Ravens in the regular season last year.  He became an absolute beast in the playoffs with 22 catches for 380 yards and a further 4 TDs.  It seemed that everytime Baltimore needed a clutch play, it was Boldin making those catches in the playoffs, several of the highlight reel variety.

Boldin has led the Ravens in receiving in each of the last three seasons, since being acquired from the Arizona Cardinals.

The Boldin move by the 49ers answers division rival Seattle’s move to add Percy Harvin earlier in the day.  Boldin should give the 49ers another threat at Wide Receiver to go along with stud receiver Michael Crabtree.  This dynamic duo, along with Tight End Vernon Davis, and a solid running game, will provide a good environment in which Quarterback Colin Kaepernick can continue to develop into a top level NFL signal caller.

The 49ers had the cap space to make this move after trading quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this month.
