Dominick Cruz out, Urijah Faber in Again for UFC 169

Dominick Cruz has pulled out of his scheduled UFC 169 fight, a scheduled Bantamweight Title unification bout vs. Renan Barao due to a groin injury suffered in training.

In his place steps in Urijah Faber, who most recently defeated Michael McDonald, for his 3rd shot at the UFC Bantamweight title. Cruz will vacate the title officially, making Renan Barao the new undisputed UFC Bantamweight champion. Cruz has not fought since he defended his title in a Unanimous decision victory over Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, who is currently the UFC Flyweight champion, in October of 2011.

On May 7, 2012 Cruz tore his ACL and pulled out of his fight with Urijah Faber at UFC 148.  This was also after The Ultimate Fighter: Live season. After his surgery and recovery time, it was announced that Cruz underwent another ACL surgery after his body rejected the previous surgery in December of 2012.

Cruz was booked for his comeback fight against Renan Barao at the previously mentioned UFC 169. Renan Barao vs. Urijah Faber will take place Feb. 1st at UFC 169 and will also feature the UFC Featherweight champ Jose Aldo defending his belt against Ricardo Lamas as well as Frank Mir vs. Alistair Overeem.
