Lois Boisson Gained 200K Instagram Followers with French Open Run

French tennis sensation Lois Boisson experienced a rapid rise in her social media numbers thanks to her sensational run at the 2025 French Open.

Boisson was granted a wild card to play in her first Grand Slam tournament on home soil. She was ranked 361st two weeks ago with a mere 8,000 followers on Instagram. She came into this year’s French Open as a virtually unknown player except to the hardcore fans. Yet, in the first week of June, Boisson has defied expectations and produced one of the most remarkable feats in tennis history by reaching the semifinals. That run was achieved with a couple of stonking wins against World No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the fourth round and World No. 6 Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals.

Boisson garnered a lot of interest from sports outlets, the exuberant French crowd, and on social media after an incredible run on the Roland Garros clay. Data from Instrack show that Boisson gained over 200,000 followers on Instagram since the tournament began at the end of May.

Boisson’s current follower count stands at 242K following her semifinal loss to Coco Gauff. It could realistically have hit the half-million mark had she won that match. Fans latched onto the Cinderella story that has taken the tennis world by storm. Boisson is now one of the most followed WTA tennis players on the Meta platform.

Boisson, who is only 22, has spent most of her early tennis years scuffling on the ITF and the 125K events and won her biggest career title at the Saint-Malo 125 last summer. After sustaining a career-threatening ACL injury to her knee at the Paris 125 shortly after that success, Boisson had to wait for a year before her full debut at the Tour level.

She played at the low-key WTA 250 event in Rouen but that was marred by a bizarre complaint from her opponent. In total, she had played just two Tour-level matches (main draw) before arriving at the French Open. Boisson is guaranteed a Top 100 debut and possibly a long list of sponsors looking to pounce on her booming social media numbers. To think that all this happened over the course of a few days and matches is an indication of the gravitational pull of social media in the current age.
