Nitto ATP Finals Turin Doubles Group B
Koolhof/Mektic – Heliovaara/Patten: 14.11.2024 11:30 CEST
H2H: 1-1
Koolhof and Mektic have won four of their last five matches. Last week in Paris, Mektic and Koolhof won the Masters title in Paris, winning against Glasspool and Pavlasek in three tight sets. Nikola and Wesley were great in the match tiebreak, where they dominated from the very start. Here in Turin, Koolhof and Mektic lost their opening match against Purcell and Thompson in straight sets. Mektic and Koolhof were terrible in the first set tiebreak, where they just made too many unforced errors. After that, in the second set, both of them looked frustrated, and were just terrible on their serve. In their second group match, Koolhof and Mektic defeated Granollers and Zeballos in three tight sets as we predicted and kept their hopes alive. So far this season, Koolhof and Mektic have had their biggest results on the hard courts, where they have won five titles. Three of them were at the Masters level, where they were dominant throughout the whole year. Just a couple of weeks ago, Koolhof and Mektic won the title in Shanghai, and then proceeded to reach the final in Basel, just a week after that. The last time Mektic and Koolhof played together at the Nitto ATP Finals was in 2020, when they ended up winning the tournament.
Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten have won three of their last five matches. Last week in Paris, Harri and Henry reached the quarterfinals, where they lost against Purcell and Thompson in three sets. Here in Turin, Heliovaara and Patten won their opening match against Granollers and Zeballos in straight sets. Both of them served well, offering only two breakpoints. They also saved both breakpoints, and were overall great under pressure. In their second round match, Harri and Henry defeated Purcell and Thompson in straight sets as we predicted. So far this season, Heliovaara and Patten have had their biggest results on the fast courts, such as this one. Their biggest title was winning Wimbledon earlier this season, winning against Purcell and Thompson in three tight sets. Patten and Heliovaara won their last title in Stockholm, just over a month ago, winning against Griekspoor and Stevens in the final. This was also their fourth title of the season. New partnerships often take a bit of time getting used to each other. However, Harri and Henry are having a great first season together, and we expect them to be even better next season. They started their journey on the clay court part of the season, where they also had some decent results. In their first tournament together, Heliovaara and Patten won the title in Marrakech and clicked together as a doubles pair.
