Hamad Medjedovic and Laslo Djere will meet in an all-Serbian semifinal, ensuring that the home crowd will have someone to cheer for on Saturday. In the bottom half of the draw, Denis Shapovalov takes on No. 4 seed Jiri Lehecka. Who do you think will make the final?
ATP Belgrade Semifinal Predictions
Laslo Djere vs Hamad Medjedovic
Head-to-head: Djere 2-1
This season has been a struggle for Laslo Djere even before getting injured in the spring, but with this run he’s granting himself a chance to finish in the Top 100 anyway. One or two more wins would really help and the Serbian has been on fire in Belgrade so far, not dropping a set on the way to the semifinals. Hamad Medjedovic is in a similar position, struggling to regain his form after a serious illness in the first four months of the season. The 2023 Next Gen Finals champion recently lost to Djere in Stockholm qualifying and will need to step it up even more to keep going. His potential is still there though and he’s got the thunderous power to hit through any court in any matchup.
Prediction: Medjedovic in 3
Jiri Lehecka vs Denis Shapovalov
Head-to-head: Lehecka 1-0
Jiri Lehecka looked down and out against Lukas Klein in the quarterfinals at 3-6 1-4, delivering a low-energy performance that has been a bit of a theme for him the last few weeks. But he found the break back and suddenly also a whole new gear intensity-wise. Denis Shapovalov won’t be easy to beat though. While before this season you would have expected a bit more from the Canadian once he was back healthy, he looks like he could go out with a bang this year. He demolished Christopher O’Connell and just has that vibe about him this week. He’s confident and firing, showing glimpses of what his peak level used to be in the past.
Prediction: Shapovalov in 3
