WTA Budapest Day 3 Predictions Including Barbora Krejcikova vs Xiyu Wang

Barbora Krejcikova in action ahead of the WTA Budapest Open.

It should be an entertaining day three at the WTA Budapest Grand Prix with a number of intriguing matches on the schedule in the Hungarian capital. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Martina Trevisan vs Kateryna Baindl. But who will book their place in the quarterfinals?

WTA Budapest Day 3 Predictions

Anna Bondar vs Despina Papamichail

Head-to-head: Bondar 1-1 Papamichail

On Tuesday, Despina Papamichail stunned home crowd favorite Dalma Galfi to progress to the second round. Can the Greek do it again? Her head-to-head with Anna Bondar is tied at 1-1, but the Hungarian won the most recent meeting. Bondar has been very consistent with her clay form too, making the semifinals in her last three events on the surface, including Contrexeville last week. The 25-year-old should be too solid for Papamichail to pull off another upset.

Prediction: Bondar in 3

Ekaterina Gorgodze vs Zhang Shuai

Head-to-head: first meeting

Ekaterina Gorgodze hasn’t been in good form since making the final in Prague in April, winning just three matches in her next six events.  While that doesn’t bother too well for the Georgian, Zhang Shuai generally doesn’t consider clay her surface of choice. The 33-year-old’s flatter shots don’t penetrate these courts with the same fierce power as they can do on hard courts or grass. Combined with this being Zhang’s first match since Wimbledon, she might struggle to find her rhythm quickly enough here.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Xiyu Wang

Head-to-head: Krejcikova 1-1 Wang

This season has been a big struggle for Barbora Krejcikova (and none of it her fault, really), but not everything is lost just yet. The Czech made a solid run to the third round at Wimbledon and it seems like the fitness issues are behind her. She definitely could have drawn an easier opponent though. Xiyu Wang has already reached four ITF finals on clay this year, albeit three of them on the green one. The Chinese could push Krejcikova, but shouldn’t beat her if the top seed picks up where she left off in London.

Prediction: Krejcikova in 2
