The ATP Kitzbuhel tournament continues with Round of 16 action on Wednesday. The tour stop in Austria is part of the brief two-week post-Wimbledon clay swing in Europe. The clay diehards are trying to pick up points, cash and rankings before the North American summer hardcourt season begins. Tour players who are good on clay are making the calculuation that playing this week at ATP Kitzbuhel gives them a good chance to boost their ranking and potentially qualify for the bigger, higher-point tournaments down the road. Players who play this week in Europe are usually in a position where they didn’t overextend themselves at Wimbledon and therefore are fresh enough to take on this two-week workload. Valentin Vacherot did not play during the grass season due to injury. He missed Wimbledon and came back to the tour last week. He was able to win a match, get some reps in, and build back his fitness base after an extended layoff on tour. He’s back this week at the ATP Kitzbuhel event, which should be taken as a good sign. Specifically, his body is obviously healthy enough that he thinks he can give it a go in a second tournament in a two-week span. One would have to think that if he was worried about his fitness before Canada, Cincinnati, and the U.S. Open, he probably would have sat out this week. His opponent, Quentin Halys, beat Alexander Bublik last week in Gstaad but then lost to Alexander Shevchenko. Both men made the Gstaad quarterfinals last week before losing.

You can try to hit the middle, knowing you will win at least one but could potentially win two bets. While the match is conceptually simple to bet on, don’t put too much money on the line. Vacherot is still working his way back from injury. He could be a little sluggish here, and Halys could catch him off guard. ATP Kitzbuhel includes this intriguing matchup on its Wednesday Round of 16 schedule. Sebastian Baez and Arthur Rinderknech both lost to in-form opponents last week in ATP 250 clay tournaments. Baez lost to eventual ATP Bastad champion Andrey Rublev. Rinderknech lost to eventual ATP Gstaad winner Stefanos Tsitsipas. Both matches were quarterfinals. Baez got absolutely blown out by Rublev, while Rinderknech lost in three sets to Tsitsipas. You could view Baez more negatively based on those realities, but you could also point out that Rublev is a better, higher-ranked player than Tsitsipas right now.

This is basically a moneyline match, since the match is priced very close to a toss-up. Rinderknech is the higher-ranked player by more than a couple dozen spots, but Baez has 17 clay match wins in 2026 compared to just eight for Rinderknech. How you compare the Rublev and Tsitsipas losses for these players last week in clay tournaments preceding ATP Kitzbuhel is up for you to decide, but we think Baez getting absolutely crushed by Rublev is a worse result than Rinderknech extending Tsitsipas to three sets. We’re going with Rinderknech on the moneyline. You can then use a set or game spread parlay piece on Baez for a measure of insurance.

Jan-Lennard Struff made the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. It is therefore a surprise he is playing ATP Kitzbuhel instead of taking a vacation and waiting until the hardcourt swing. Struff beat Hubert Hurkacz, Daniil Medvedev, and Brandon Nakashima (among others) in the process of getting to the Wimbledon quarterfinals. It was the most successful Major tournament of the German veteran’s career. He sees an opportunity in Austria. His opponent will not make life easy for him. Mariano Navone is a tough, proven clay tennis player. He has 16 clay match victories this year, whereas Struff has only four. Struff and Navone are separated by only six spots (41 for Struff, 47 for Navone) in the ATP rankings, but Navone has the clay credentials.

We’re not going all in on Navone, but we have at least some confidence he can get this done in straight sets. He’s such a naturally comfortable clay tennis player that he should be able to handle Struff, who could easily be resting after his deep Wimbledon run but has chosen to play ATP Kitzbuhel instead. This feels like a match Navone can control from start to finish. Navone’s plus-12 margin in clay match victories this year is hard to overlook.
