The WTA Hamburg 250 event, this week is place in a somewhat awkward part of the WTA calendar, what with it being a clay event right between Wimbledon and the US hard court season. As such, the field isn’t exactly the strongest on paper, but at the same time it has been providing many close and exciting matches, with many players believing they can go deep this week or even win a title.

Simona Waltert vs Mayar Sherif
Head-to-head: Sherif 3-0 Waltert
While the two players are close in level overall, Sherif has won all three of their previous matchups (all on clay) and she has been on a roll on clay, winning her last three tournaments on the surface, including two in the past two weeks for a ten match win streak. With the level she has been showing on clay in recent times and the confidence she is surely feeling at the moment, she should be able to win here, even if fatigue can kick in at any moment during such a large win streak.

Anna Bondar vs Noma Noha Akugue
Head-to-head: Bondar 2-0 Akuge
Bondar hasn’t been playing at her best lately, but she is clearly the better player of the two here, especially on clay. Akuge also hasn’t been playing well lately and she is yet to beat Bondar in this matchup. All things considered, Bondar should have the edge here.

Katarzyna Kawa vs Paula Badosa
Head-to-head: Badosa 1-0 Kawa
Badosa was on a fantastic streak, winning the title in Bastad and the final in Iasi, but she had to retire in that final and her physical state at the moment is somewhat unclear. If she is fully recovered and can play anywhere near the level she has shown the last two weeks, she should have little trouble advancing here.
