Roman Andres Burruchaga vs Daniel Merida

Roman Andres Burruchaga has enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign, particularly on clay, and has carried that form into this tournament. The Argentine has produced several strong performances this week, highlighted by an excellent victory over top seed Flavio Cobolli. His consistency from the baseline and confidence in longer rallies have made him one of the standout players in the draw.
Daniel Merida has also impressed with an excellent run this week and has shown plenty of promise on clay. However, Burruchaga appears to be the more battle-hardened player, having already come through tougher tests against higher-quality opposition. Merida should make this a competitive contest, but Burruchaga’s greater experience, consistency, and all-round clay-court game give him the edge to reach the next round.

Alex Molcan vs Damir Dzumhur
Head-to-head – Molcan 0-1 Dzumhur
Alex Molcan takes on Damir Dzumhur in what promises to be a fascinating contest. Molcan’s aggressive style of play should test Dzumhur’s defensive instincts, with the Slovak likely to dictate rallies whenever he gets the opportunity. Both players are comfortable on clay, making this an intriguing tactical battle in Umag.
Dzumhur reminded everyone of his fighting qualities by defeating Matteo Arnaldi in three tiebreak sets, but that marathon victory may come at a physical cost. Having spent considerably more time on court, fatigue could become a factor as the match progresses. Expect plenty of service breaks and long baseline exchanges, but Molcan’s fresher legs and attacking approach should help him edge a tight encounter.
