ATP Mallorca Final Prediction
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Ethan Quinn
Head-to-head – First Meeting
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who is seeded second this week, has proved why he can be such a dangerous player when he gets going. While the Spaniard hasn’t had a blockbuster season thus far, he seemed to be finding some form last week in Queen’s. He has likely gained confidence from that, translating it into a final appearance this week in Mallorca. Given his ranking and experience, the Spaniard has to start as the favourite.
Ethan Quinn is only 22 years old, but has been around the tour for a couple of years. While the American hasn’t had any notable performances to date, this week has been a revelation into the talents Quinn possesses as he reaches his first-ever main tour final. He reserved his best for the semi-finals here against Nuno Borges, beating him 6-1, 6-2 in a dominant performance.
Matchup-wise, Quinn has the slightly bigger serve, but Fokina has served well throughout this week at ATP Mallorca. That likely means a lot of baseline exchanges, with both players not afraid to mix it up, yielding many entertaining rallies. Quinn moves around the court pretty well, and his net game is solid, but Fokina seems highly determined with his home crowd willing him on. The Spaniard should enter Wimbledon as a dark horse, and his aggressive tennis should be too much to handle for Quinn, who will no doubt feel the nerves in his first final.
Prediction: Fokina in 2
