WTA Chennai Day 2 Predictions Including Zeynep Sonmez vs Tatiana Prozorova

No play was possible due to heavy rain on the opening day of the WTA Chennai Open, and all the matches have been shifted to day two as a result which should ensure plenty of entertaining tennis for the Indian fans. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Lucia Bronzetti vs Katarzyna Kawa, but who will book their spot in the second round?

WTA Chennai Day 2 Predictions

Maria Timofeeva vs Lanlana Tararudee

Head-to-head: first meeting

Maria Timofeeva has been winning a significant number of matches at the ITF level, but she will be looking to secure her second tour-level win of the season. She will like her chances against Lanlana Tararudee, who has only one tour-level win to her name and is struggling with form. Timofeeva has more experience at this level and should get the win if she plays close to her best.

Nao Hibino vs Mia Pohankova

Head-to-head: first meeting

Nao Hibino is having her worst season on the WTA Tour and will be looking to get some wins in this tournament and take some confidence into the off-season. She will face world #659 Mia Pohankova, who is a wild card and will play her first tour-level match. The 17-year-old Pohankova has played some good tennis against higher-ranked players this season and can take a set here. However, Hibino’s experience should prevail.

Prediction: Hibino in 3

Leolia Jeanjean vs Nina Stojanovic

Head-to-head: Jeanjean 1-0 Stojanovic

This is a great opportunity for both players to get a tour-level win, especially for Nina Stojanovic, who hasn’t won at this level in a long time. Leolia Jeanjean has been the better player of the two this year and reached a career-high ranking in August, but her form heading into WTA Chennai doesn’t inspire much confidence. Stojanovic’s serve has been subpar lately, and Jeanjean should pounce on it to create break chances.

Zeynep Sonmez vs Tatiana Prozorova

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Turkey’s rising star Zeynep Sonmez is the top seed this week at the Chennai Open and has expectations to make a deep run here. Her aggressive baseline game should be rewarded on these hard courts. Tatiana Prozorova has only one tour-level win to her name and is yet to break inside the top 100. She can be competitive in this encounter with her grit, but that alone won’t help her win. Sonmez has more weapons and more experience, which should make her the favourite for this match.

Prediction: Sonmez in 2
