Seven Tennis Players Retire in September 2025

Less than two months remain for the end of the regular tennis season. And some players are already winding up their tennis careers. In our monthly retirement series, we list seven players who officially retired in September 2025.

Seven Tennis Players Retire in September 2025

1. Alize Cornet

Cornet explicitly confirmed that her retirement from professional tennis is “for real” this time after losing in the first round of the WTA 125K tournament in San Sebastian in early September. The Frenchwoman made a retirement U-turn back in April when she came back to the tour, but she only won four matches at all levels this season.

2. Mirjam Bjorklund

Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund confirmed her retirement in an interview with Expressen, citing the surgery to remove a cyst in her neck last year as the catalyst for that decision. Bjorklund, 27, reached a career-high ranking of World No. 123 and played her last match at the 2025 Madrid Open qualifying tournament. She recently wed ATP star Denis Shapovalov and will work in tandem with her husband’s coaching team before venturing into another career.
