The two halves of the women’s draw at the WTA 1000 in Madrid are coming together on Monday with all fourth-round matches on the schedule. Mirra Andreeva has already claimed two titles at this level in 2025, is she a big threat to win another? Who do you think will reach the quarterfinals?
WTA Madrid Day 7 Predictions
Marta Kostyuk vs Anastasia Potapova
Head-to-head: Potapova 2-1
Two players who were expected to have a bigger breakthrough by now, but it still hasn’t fully come together for them. Anastasia Potapova had that one week in Cluj this season but hasn’t been too impressive otherwise, Marta Kostyuk on the other hand couldn’t defend some big results from 2024. It’s tough to call this one, especially as they’re playing each other on clay for the first time. Gut feeling is Potapova, who’s been incredible this week and might ride that momentum despite potential fatigue.
Prediction: Potapova in 3
Moyuka Uchijima vs Ekaterina Alexandrova
Head-to-head: First meeting
This time last year Moyuka Uchijima was on a huge ITF win streak, which gave her the momentum to qualify and win a round at Roland Garros. These results allowed her to take a different route through bigger events now and she’s stepping up with wins over 2022 finalists Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula this week. Ekaterina Alexandrova might hit herself off the court with that ultra-aggressive brand of tennis, but the conditions in Madrid suit that style. As for her physical issues against Daria Kasatkina, we can only guess if they’ll persist.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 3
Elina Svitolina vs Maria Sakkari
Head-to-head: 2-2
Maria Sakkari recently reunited with her former coach Tom Hill and seems to have found something in her game this week. The Greek tends to succeed in altitude conditions and this is such a welcome run considering her recent struggles. She’ll need to keep it up against Elina Svitolina, who just showed her active counter-punching can be a factor in these conditions when she defeated Elena Rybakina. Fending off another powerful player with a big serve is the kind of experience that might help her out.
Prediction: Svitolina in 3
Mirra Andreeva vs Yulia Starodubtseva
Head-to-head: First meeting
Mirra Andreeva had her breakthrough run at this event two years ago, turning 16 on the day of her third-round match. This time she’s playing her fourth-round encounter 24 hours before her birthday, but her position in the sport has changed so much since. Having already won two WTA 1000s this season, the Russian is a well-oiled machine with a 23-5 record. Recently, it took some redlining performances from Amanda Anisimova or Ekaterina Alexandrova to beat her and Yulia Starodubtseva doesn’t possess such weaponry.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2
