Mirra Andreeva cracked a major milestone on Saturday as she stormed to win her biggest WTA title at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships. In front of an expectant crowd, the teenager rose to the occasion, playing with poise and patience, and was ultimately rewarded after another breathtaking performance in the final.
Andreeva defeated in-form Dane Clara Tauson 7-6 6-1 to land her second career title at the top level. But that’s just half the achievement of a very productive and breakout week in the U.A.E. The 17-year-old will become the youngest player to break into the top 10 in almost 20 years when the WTA rankings are officially updated on Monday.
Andreeva Defeated Three Grand Slam Champions En Route To Dubai Title
During the week, Andreeva compiled massive wins against the elite band. She defeated World No. 2 Iga Swiatek and former Wimbledon champions Elena Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova. She won 12 of the 13 sets she contested.
Ever since she exploded on the scene at the 2023 Madrid Open, Andreeva was destined to reach the top of women’s tennis. But in a tour full of one-week wonders, several tennis fans tempered the hype with caution. Andreeva had to prove herself, and after winning 14 of 22 matches at the Tour level that year, she was named the 2023 WTA Newcomer of the Year.
Expectations intensified last season, and after Andreeva appointed former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez as her full-time coach, she began to blossom. A first Grand Slam semifinal at the French Open (a run in which she defeated Aryna Sabalenka) was quickly followed by her maiden WTA title in Iasi.
Although the season will fondly be remembered for an emotional trophy presentation in which Andreeva shed tears of despair for losing the Ningbo final to countrywoman Daria Kasatkina, she achieved a top-20 year-end ranking. It was an achievement that players of her age could only dream of.

Andreeva Set To Rise To New Career-High Ranking Of World No. 9
Andreeva has gone from strength to strength in 2025. Less than two months into the new season, she has already bagged a first WTA 1000 title that not many people saw coming. She is the youngest champion at this level since the WTA 1000 format was introduced in 2009.
This is only the start of something truly special for this talented young Russian who will have a new career-high ranking of No. 9. She is the first 17-year-old to break into the top 10 of the WTA rankings since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007. The rest of the tour is on notice. Mirra Andreeva is no longer coming, but she has finally arrived.
