Fabian Marozsan vs Justin Engel
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Fabian Marozsan suffered another three-set loss to Gael Monfils last week and will be eager to make a good run here and get some confidence before the upcoming Masters tournaments. Marozsan is playing at the BMW Open for the first time and has a tricky opening match against the 17-year-old local wild card, Justin Engel, who has just one tour-level win. This should be a big moment for the German, and the crowd will be on his side. However, I like Marozsan’s chances here due to his experience.

Alexander Bublik vs Zizou Bergs
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Alexander Bublik will make his main-draw debut at the BMW Open, having failed to advance from the qualifying in 2017. Bublik looked solid in both his qualifying matches, but this should be his biggest test. Zizou Bergs is not a proven clay court player, but his consistency and ability to absorb pace will frustrate Bublik. Bergs has been in good touch this season, and I am confident in backing him against Bublik on clay. Bublik might take a set if he takes this seriously, but Bergs should win in three.

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Mariano Navone
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Felix Auger-Aliassime started the season brilliantly and continued a hot streak for the first two months. However, his form had to come down eventually, and he has lost four of his last five matches. This won’t be alarming for the Canadian as he is now well-rested again and should be ready for a deep run this week. Mariano Navone is extremely tough to play on clay but hasn’t been at his best this season. I expect the higher-ranked Auger-Aliassime to fight his way out of this tricky encounter.

Jakub Mensik vs Yannick Hanfmann
Head-to-Head: Mensik 1-1 Hanfmann
Jakub Mensik took a well-deserved rest and decided to skip the Monte-Carlo Masters. He will be fresh and raring to continue his great form from Miami. The Czech player doesn’t have much experience on clay, and every match win will make him a better player on the dirt. Yannick Hanfmann has the potential to cause trouble on this surface and is a former quarterfinalist in Munich. However, his form has been dreadful this season, and if he does not get off to a good start, Mensik will pounce and take this match away in no time.
