There are still three spots up for grabs for the quarterfinals of the United Cup and five teams are in contention. This article features the blockbuster tie between Poland and Czechia, the winner will top the group. As always, we at LWOT will offer our predictions for every match on the slate. But which team will come out victorious?
United Cup Day 5 Predictions: Poland vs Czechia
Iga Swiatek vs Karolina Muchova
Head-to-Head: Swiatek 2-1 Muchova
Karolina Muchova at her best can trouble anyone and her previous matches with Iga Swiatek are a testament to that. All the three matches these two have played have gone to a deciding set and another close match can be expected on Wednesday. Both the players easily defeated their opponents in the previous match. Muchova’s creativity and versatility can hurt Swiatek if she is not dialed in. The result of the men’s match could also affect the outcome of this match. I am going for the safer option.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3
Hubert Hurkacz vs Tomas Machac
Head-to-Head: Hurkacz 1-0 Machac
Hubert Hurkacz has been struggling for form since the Cincinnati Masters and has lost four of his last five matches. Hurkacz lost in straight sets against Casper Ruud in his first match here and will look to get his first win under the new coach. Tomas Machac also fell victim to Casper Ruud, but he played a much better match and would be confident of his chances against Hurkacz. These two have only played once but I expect a different result this time.
Prediction: Machac in 3
Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz vs Karolina Muchova vs Tomas Machac
Head-to-Head: First meeting
All the players who are playing the singles are scheduled to play the doubles too. Swiatek and Hurkacz will be pairing for the first time in this edition as Hurkacz didn’t play the last doubles match of team Poland. Muchova and Machac will be full of confidence after winning in straight sets against Norway. I am giving the edge to team Czechia.
Prediction: Muchova/Machac in 3
