Day 4 at the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane will feature the four Round of 16 matches of the bottom half of the draw, with #2 seed and defending champion Grigor Dimitrov the most notable name in action this Wednesday. All four matches look quite interesting and intriguing in their own way and it should be another fantastic day of tennis Down Under.
ATP Brisbane Day 4 Predictions
Yoshihito Nishioka vs Jiri Lehecka
Head-to-head: first meeting
Lehecka is primed to go up the rankings this year after injury derailed his 2024 season and he started the season in the best possible way, with a convincing win over Holger Rune in his opening match here. Nishioka can be a very tough out when he’s playing his best, but Lehecka clearly has more firepower and upside in general, and he should be able to prevail here.
Prediction: Lehecka in 2
Benjamin Bonzi vs Nicolas Jarry
Head-to-head: Bonzi 1-0 Jarry
Their one previous meeting was a three-tiebreak affair (at Challenger level) and this should also be a very tight contest. Jarry might be far higher ranked, but he’s quite inconsistent and rarely able to play his best level, while Bonzi is capable of playing well above his ranking. All things considered, Jarry should have a slight edge, but it is likely to be a very close match.
Prediction: Jarry in 3
Jordan Thompson vs Alex Michelsen
Head-to-head: Thompson 2-0 Michelsen
Michelsen seems to have the potential to go much further than Thompson in his career overall, but the Aussie is in the best moment of his career and seems ready to try and match or even surpass his great 2024 season after starting the season with a great win over Berrettini. When they faced last year in Mexico, Michelsen won the first set 6-0 but then Thompson won two very tight sets to pull through. Another tight affair is to be expected here.
Prediction: Thompson in 3
Grigor Dimitrov vs Aleksandar Vukic
Head-to-head: Dimitrov 2-0 Vukic
Brisbane has been a happy hunting ground for Dimitrov all his career and he will be aiming for another title here this week. He played well in his first match and should once again have the edge here against an opponent he has never lost a set against. A deep run here would be the ideal way to kickstart a 2025 campaign which he expects to match or even surpass his great 2024 season.
Prediction: Dimitrov in 2
