Nuno Borges has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Nuno lost in the second round of the Olympic Games against Navone. Just a week before that, Borges won the title in Bastad, winning against Nadal in straight sets. Here in Montreal, Borges defeated Kecmanovic in three tight sets. Last year, at this part of the season, Borges competed in three hard-court tournaments, and lost all of his matches in the first round.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Humbert is the favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. He had way better results on the hard courts this season than Borges. His first round performance against Fils was dominant, so we believe that he will continue in that fashion.
That being said, Humbert covering the games handicap is a value bet.

Daniil Medvedev has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Daniil was defeated by Auger-Aliassime in the 1/8-Final of the Olympic Games. However, he can now concentrate on his favorite part of the season, the hard court season. His last hard-court match was in March in Miami where he reached the semifinals, losing against Sinner in straight sets. Last year in Toronto, Medvedev was stopped in the quarterfinals where he lost against Alex de Minaur in straight sets.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Washington, Alejandro lost in the second round of the tournament against Cobolli in three tight sets. A week before that, Fokina reached the quarterfinals in Atlanta where he lost against Thompson in three tight sets. Here in Montreal, Fokina defeated Safiullin in the first round in straight sets as we predicted. Last year in Toronto, Fokina reached the semifinals where he lost against de Minaur in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Daniil is the big favorite in this matchup. Alejandro had a solid first round performance. We believe that he will be able to keep this match tight. On the other hand, Medvedev has not played on the hard courts for a long time now. We believe that he will need some time to adapt to the surface.
That being said, Davidovich Fokina covering the games handicap is a value bet.
