ATP Dallas Quarterfinal Predictions Including Frances Tiafoe vs Marcos Giron

Frances Tiafoe US OPEN

Time for the quarterfinal matches of the 2024 ATP Dallas Open with the top four seeds remaining in contention for the title. Frances Tiafoe takes on Marcos Giron in an all-American battle, while Ben Shelton will face Jordan Thompson. Who do you think will make the final four?

ATP Dallas Quarterfinal Predictions

Dominik Koepfer vs Tommy Paul

Head-to-head: 1-1

It’s been almost seven years since these two last faced each other. Tommy Paul is firmly inside the Top 20 now even despite not defending his Australian Open semifinal points, while Dominik Koepfer was impressive last year in how quickly he came back to his best after serious injury issues. The German can be such a tricky opponent to face with his lefty spins and returning skills, but it doesn’t feel like Paul would be one of the players most vulnerable to that style, he’s got a lot of regulation in his game and won’t start overhitting.
Prediction: Paul in 2

Jordan Thompson vs Ben Shelton

Head-to-head: Shelton 2-0

Ben Shelton produced a couple of big wins over Jordan Thompson, one on the way to his maiden ATP Tour title and another one of his first major upsets at the Challenger level. The Australian has grown so much as a player in recent years and performs incredibly well behind his serve right now. He’s also a fantastic grinder in quicker conditions and will test Shelton’s patience at least a little bit. The American will need to be as clean as in his opener against Michael Mmoh to find a way to prevail.
Prediction: Shelton in 3

Adrian Mannarino vs James Duckworth

Head-to-head: Mannarino 2-1

James Duckworth is having such an awesome start to the season with a Top 100 return and a couple of ATP Tour quarterfinals already. His serving has been off the charts this week and he should be a threat going forward as well. Adrian Mannarino will be the biggest test yet though and interestingly, this will actually be the Frenchman’s first match of the event after Yoshihito Nishioka’s withdrawal. He might need a while to get into his rhythm, but ultimately indoor courts with a fairly low bounce really suit his unpleasant flat-hitting style.
Prediction: Mannarino in 3

Frances Tiafoe vs Marcos Giron

Head-to-head: Tiafoe 3-1

Marcos Giron seems to love this venue and he always goes deep here. The speed and the bounce of these courts is something that he’s very comfortable with, finding ways to be aggressive with ease. The question is whether he can post a big win like he did in 2022, defeating top-seeded Taylor Fritz. Frances Tiafoe has a good record against him and the way he was able to start dominating from 2-4 down against Alex Michelsen in round one, he’ll probably problem-solve here again if needed.
Prediction: Tiafoe in 2
