ATP Swiss Indoors Basel Day 2 Predictions Including Casper Ruud vs Stan Wawrinka

Casper Ruud San Diego

The 2022 edition of the Swiss Indoors tournament is underway with several big names in action in what promises to be an exciting Day 2. As ever, we at LWOT preview and predict all scheduled clashes for you. We have four matches in this article, and the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article.

ATP Swiss Indoors Basel Day 2 Predictions

Maxime Cressy vs Dominic Stricker

Head to head – Cressy 0-1 Stricker

This could be a tricky one for Maxime Cressy first up. He lost to Dominic Stricker in three tiebreakers earlier in Stuttgart which signals this match to be a close affair once again. The Austrian is coming off of an unlikely run to the Round of 16 last week in Antwerp and that should instil confidence in the 20 year old. Expect the young Austrian to make a match of it but the American should find the court conditions to his liking and eventually serve his way to victory.
Prediction: Cressy in 3

Adrian Mannarino vs Botic van de Zandschulp

Head to head – Mannarino 1-1 van de Zandschulp

Both players have cooled off slightly post US Open, especially Adrian Mannarino after his title run in Winston-Salem. Botic van de Zandschulp has failed to win two matches in a row since the US Open and it’s unlikely that he’ll manage to do so this week with a potential clash against the World #1 in waiting. That being said, this match should be a very even affair, both players have split the two previous meetings which makes this match extremely tough to call. Expect entertaining baseline rallies with the Dutchman proving slightly more solid to nab the victory.
Prediction: van de Zandschulp in 3

Sebastian Baez vs Pablo Carreno Busta

Head to head – Baez 0-1 Carreno Busta

Pablo Carreno Busta will be hoping for a good week in Basel as he looks to make a push for the ATP Finals. The Spaniard currently sits on 14th position in the race to Turin but the gap is not too big that he can’t cover before the year end tournament begins. It’ll be easier said than done for the fifth seed here as the draw is a jam packed one. He takes on the energetic Argentine Sebastian Baez who’s had a decent year winning his first career title along the way. Expect the fast indoor conditions to suit the Spaniard more with the Argentine being overpowered from the baseline.
Prediction: Carreno Busta in 2

Casper Ruud vs Stan Wawrinka

Head to head – First Meeting

The draw gods have smiled on us to let us watch this matchup sooner rather than later. Casper Ruud hasn’t quite carried his tremendous run at the US Open but he has still won a lot this year and is in pretty good physical condition for the remaining tournaments. Stan Wawrinka’s ball striking on some days is still second to none. However, his fitness has deteriorated due to injuries and age, and it remains to be seen whether he can still conjure up victories on the trot without his body breaking down. Expect Wawrinka to enthrall us all with his ball striking for a set, but Ruud is the fitter of the two and in form to get the victory.
Prediction: Ruud in 3
