Ranked No. 267, the wild card Brockmann will make her WTA Tour main draw debut in this match, according to Tennis Abstract data. The German has performed well in recent ITF events, reaching the semifinals in the Darmstadt event in her last tournament. This should be a tough occasion for the 20-year-old, though Jacquemot did surprise Romanian fans last week after bowing out in a 6-1 6-1 second-round blowout at the Iasi Open. The Frenchwoman plays consistent tennis from the baseline, and should withstand Brockmann, though I wouldn’t rule out a three-setter with the German having nothing to lose.

Tamara Korpatsch vs Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva
Head-to-head: First meeting
Korpatsch tends to excel on the clay courts; while her two WTA Tour level finals took place on hard courts, she’s hoisted multiple trophies at ITF-level on the dirt. Jiménez Kasintseva cracked the Top 100 earlier this season, but has largely struggled with her form in recent months. The German should like her chances in front of the home crowd. Notably, she lost to the defending champion, Lois Boisson, at last year’s edition of this tournament.

Oleksandra Oliynykova vs Nastasja Schunk
Head-to-head: First meeting
Schunk will look to continue her momentum after winning the ITF title in Darmstadt earlier this month, as she prevailed in a third-set tiebreak final. Ranked just outside the Top 400, she’s looking for a second Tour-level win at a our-level event. Oliynykova certainly isn’t the highest ranked No. 1 seed in a WTA Tour event, but she’s acquired the confidence and mental strength to excel in any clay court match, with her moonballs and unpredictability throwing opponents off their game. The Ukrainian should win straightforwardly, though it’ll be interesting to see if pressure impacts her game, given she’s the player to beat this week.
