New Orleans Saints fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Drew Brees has announced to give them one more year but now have opened up a can of worms for the decisions to be made for fellow quarterbacks, Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill. The question now is what can we expect for the other two who are also free agents? One this is for sure, this decision will cause the Saints to shift focus from the quarterback issue.
How the New Orleans Saints Will Shift Focus in 2020
Teddy B
Teddy Bridgewater’s season as a starting quarterback increased his marketability. It showed other teams that Bridgewater is past his injury and can still be the leader on the field that is required of him.
For the teams who are in need of a quarterback, Teddy B should be a number one possibility. He has shown his arm strength and his mobility. He has a competitive side that only shows on the field and his decision making has improved.
Shifting Focus
Ideally, we would love for all three quarterbacks to come back. However, we can expect Bridgewater to accept an offer to another team and Hill to be moved to the second-string with keys to the empire after a Brees retirement. No one wants to lose Bridgewater, but Hill has become a staple in the offense in various positions. We all can’t deny that in the season-ending playing off game, Hill was the plug for momentum and moving the chains. I wouldn’t put it past the Saints to try to keep all three quarterbacks. However, I would count on the Saints to try to keep Hill there under Brees.
All in all, this gives the Saints a chance to shift focus now in the NFL Draft. The defense still needs work. The team needs to figure out how to improve the secondary. The defense has shown great improvement over the years. However, it lacks consistency. Another issue is a few of its starting players are also free agents this year. Vonn Bell, P.J. Williams, and Eli Apple are all free agents this year. Between the three players, Bell and Williams have shown improvement in the game. Although Apple has shown improvement, he lacks consistency. It will be interesting to see what the organization will do with these three players who are fairly important to the starting defense.
The team also needs to improve the wide receiver roster. They have been making it fine with Michael Thomas, who is proving to be the most reliable receiver on the team. Things are heating up New Orleans. Hopefully, the New Orleans Saints can pull whatever draft power or trade they need, to fix the kinks and make it to the Super Bowl this next season.
