Superstar impending free agent running back Nick Chubb may leave for the Chargers, Chiefs after the 2024 season. It’s fair to say the Cleveland Browns are heading towards another rebuilding year since losing Deshaun Watson and trading top wide receiver Amari Cooper. The Browns don’t have a legitimate supporting cast to revitalize Chubb’s career so it may be safe to let him test the free-agent market. However, the running back has been disappearing from the NFL spotlight due to plenty of injuries, including the season-ending one last year.
Originally selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, the four-time Pro Bowler was a reliable ball-carrier for the Browns before injuries have been hampering his abilities. Chubb is coming off a brutal injury but he could easily revive his career with a fresh start. The veteran put in 1,494 rushing yards, eight touchdowns along 36 receptions for 278 yards so it’s obvious he still has something in his tank. He was a consistent runner for the Browns before injuries so if he still has those same abilities, he could still be an effective bulldozer.
However, chances are that Chubb wants to finish his career with a championship roster. The NFL Free Agency is still months away but Chubb signing with a new team might take him on a whole new level. Teams like the Chargers, Chiefs could be the perfect rosters that may bring out the best in the Pro Bowler.

Running the Football
The Los Angeles Chargers brought in J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards to effectively improve the run game since letting Austin Ekeler test the free-agent market. Edwards isn’t as effective as Dobbins has been for Jim Harbaugh’s vision that earned him more snaps. Dobbins took advantage of Edwards’ absence exploding through defenders and bringing in momentum for the offense. However, they could use another dependable backfield option in Chubb to ease the load.
Nobody loves running the football more than Harbaugh so getting both Dobbins and Chubb on the same roster could accomplish their dream of winning the Super Bowl. The Chargers sitting at 7-3 are easily the best wild card team in the AFC but they may go through some growing pains in the postseason. Chubb joining forces with the Chargers could mean he’ll produce more yardage behind a coach who wants to keep running the football. They may not be doing that now as of late but Chubb signing could put more of an emphasis on it.
The New Experiment?
Kareem Hunt returned to the Kansas City Chiefs to help the backfield for Patrick Mahomes since they lost Isiah Pacheco due to injury. He held his stomping grounds, recording 449 rushing yards and five touchdowns but was declining each matchup with his production. Chubb could follow that same blueprint and join forces with one of the best teams in the league. He has just one touchdown on 113 yards with the Browns so he could easily double those numbers with a better offensive line and coaching.
Chances are that Chubb won’t receive big money in a contract extension with the Browns so it’s easier to take a discount for a talented playoff team. The Browns are nowhere near in that position as Kansas City. Samaje Perine is nothing much but a security blanket to grab those dump-offs while rookie Carson Steele is going through growing pains. Chubb may not be the same but the Chiefs could take a flier on him to help Pacheco.
