The Panthers, Rams may be eyeing natural-gift prospect, Quinn Ewers despite the NFL Draft being months away. The 2024 NFL season is far from over but many teams are keeping on a few notable prospects ahead of the draft. The quarterback room for this year’s draft may not be the greatest but scouts are focusing on players like Ewers even though he’s not a top-5 prospect. Still, he could generate yards throwing in tight windows with the anticipation of finding a receiver in the middle.
Last season playing with the Texas Longhorns, he recorded a total of 3,479 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. Ewers may no longer be the starter anymore after the blowout against Florida, but the prospect could still garner attention away from Arch Manning who is still developing. He was still the nation’s top recruit in 2021 and his quick-decision-making abilities may be a key for a roster looking for a quarterback that works with their feet. Ewers’ efforts to make something out of one play could pay off dividends in the NFL with his aggressiveness and raw talent.
Ewers may not be getting the attention he deserves, but a team like the Carolina Panthers or Los Angeles Rams could bring out that shine.
Panthers, Rams May Be Eyeing Natural-Gift Prospect Quinn Ewers
Starting from Scratch
The Carolina Panthers 2024 season didn’t go as they hoped after sustaining a disastrous year in 2023. They don’t know the future for their next signal-caller even though they say they want to keep Bryce Young for the next few years. However, actions speak louder than words, the Panthers went with Andy Dalton for a couple of games before putting Young back in. The Panthers may have a developmental issue but it goes beyond the talent they’re bringing in.
With Diontae Johnson gone and Adam Thielen not looking to return, this gives the Panthers a legitimate chance to start new. Rookie Xavier Legette will likely be their number one receiver after trading Jonathan Mingo to the Dallas Cowboys, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Panthers start to firesale talent so they could bring in new talent in the 2025 NFL Draft. Even though they’re still starting from scratch, the Panthers should bring in someone like Ewers to test the waters and see who will take over at quarterback. Dalton is nothing more but a bridge signal-caller so it makes sense to get Ewers in the mix to see if he can work alongside recently extended Chuba Hubbard.
The Afterlife
The Los Angeles Rams are getting older as each season passes by with quarterback Matthew Stafford as their leader. Earlier this year, there were rumors the Rams could trade Stafford to a championship roster like the Vikings but talks fell through. Ewers could use this opportunity to learn from a veteran which most quarterbacks succeed in learning from an experienced starter. He isn’t going to replace Stafford immediately in one season but younger guys like wide receiver, Puka Nacua may be on the roster longer than other athletes such as Cooper Kupp.
This would be Ewers’ chance to see how Stafford throws the football like a cannon and he may not have an issue developing under head coach Sean McVay. He’s still one the youngest coaches in the league so he has many decades to get his hands on a few signal-callers and develop them to a reliable leader. Ewers may not be a Shedeur Sanders but his elusiveness to scramble out of the pocket to find the open man is similar to what Stafford has done with the Rams.
