Four-Time Pro Bowler Injury Ends Disastrous Stint – Ravens, Chiefs Next Teams?

After a disastrous first-year stint with the Texans, veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs could find a new NFL home in 2025.

Four-time Pro Bowler wide receiver, Stefon Diggs‘ injury ends disastrous stint with the Houston Texans and Ravens, Chiefs are his next possible destination in 2025. According to reports, Diggs will miss the remainder of the 2024 season with a torn ACL injury after playing eight matchups this year. It’s a huge blow for C.J. Stroud’s passing game even though Diggs was easily the No. 2 receiver, he was still a viable threat behind Nico Collins. It’s hard to imagine that Diggs returns to Houston on a new contract since this was his year to prove he could earn a deal.

Originally selected in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Maryland product was shaping himself as a legitimate superstar wideout, proving to be a reliable pass catcher alongside Adam Thielen with the Vikings which includes the Minnesota Miracle. However, the Vikings sent him to Buffalo where he spent the next three seasons with the Bills and nearly leading them to the Super Bowl, recording 1,535 receiving yards on 127 receptions. The Texans took a chance on the veteran to provide some relief in Stroud’s passing attack to help build him a championship roster to hopefully make it further in the postseason.

Things didn’t work out in Houston for Diggs. The wide receiver will become a free agent this upcoming offseason, so the chances of the Texans signing him again are slim. Diggs will probably have to play for a new team again on a one-year deal to prove he can play a full regular season before a roster can handtoss him a long-term extension. Championship-caliber teams like the Ravens, Chiefs could bring out the best in him before he eventually retires.

Hometown Return

A return for Diggs where he started his collegiate career may be what needs to end his NFL journey. The Ravens possess one of the best wide-receiving groups after trading for Diontae Johnson even though they have Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman as their top two weapons. While they have improved the ground game with Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson has all the weapons in the world to make a Super Bowl appearance. However, they could be open to the idea of signing someone like Diggs if he becomes available this offseason, especially if they fail to dethrone the Chiefs in the AFC championship game again.

Diggs may not be a superstar receiver anymore but he could still be an impactful wideout for the Ravens. He probably won’t be the weapon he wants to be in Houston since they’re still building a foundation for a championship run. The same foundation is already there in Baltimore so it shouldn’t be surprising if lands with the Ravens. Johnson is just on a one-year deal so there’s word yet if the team plans to keep him beyond after this season.

Kansas City Loading Up

The Chiefs are probably one of the most controversial 8-0 teams being that they haven’t proven they’ll be a threat this postseason. However, they find a way to win even though they keep each matchup close by at least seven points so this will be something to watch. The team took a chance on DeAndre Hopkins and it has been working out fairly well despite the size and agility that is different from other wideouts like rookie Xavier Worthy. Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice will return in 2025 but Hopkins will be a free agent again.

There’s no word if he will return but there’s a chance he could land elsewhere next season. However, Stefon Diggs could be a viable upgrade from JuJu Smith-Schuster. He doesn’t need to be a full-time player but one to make a couple of catches to move the chains. With Brown and Rice returning and if they fail to three-peat, they could make a big splash and sign Diggs on a short-term deal.
